Turmeric is an essential spice in Persian cuisine. Growing up, it was used in almost every meal we had for lunch or dinner but as a grown up for some reason, I lost my interest and stopped using it. When my joint pain started, my mom told me, “honey, you should start using turmeric in your cooking.” Her reason, ”it’s a natural pain reducer.” “Humm…really?!” I thought, and of course me being me, had to do my own research and here is what I found on WebMD: “Turmeric is used for arthritis, heartburn (dyspepsia), stomach pain, diarrhea, intestinal gas, stomachbloating, loss of appetite, jaundice, liver problems and gallbladder disorders…… In one study, turmeric worked about as well as ibuprofen for reducing pain.”
I decided it’s a good enough reason to start using it again but how could I take it without dealing with the smell? Again me being me, I took the easy road and added it to my morning smoothie. In this delicious mix, not only got rid of the smell, now it tastes good too. 😉
After taking it for a few days, I can give it a thumbs up from a personal experience point of view too. My joints are not 100% yet but definitely feeling way better.
